My Freelander is noisy...

I own a Freelander 1.8i 2002 and 120000 km.A rather unsuccessful engine as they've changed the head gasket and sealed cylinder liners a couple of times.Earlier after starting the engine especially when the car hadn't been used for some time , I could hear some clicking sound coming presumably from the engine lifters but that sound seemed to disappear after some time. Now that sound has become permanent and louderWhat could be the problem?Aren't these automatically adjustable lifters?I use Castrol Ultraclean oil and as advised I've put also Bardahl Lifter Cleaner

Our answer:

Hi Ivan,

That engine is indeed known for its issues. Sounds to us as if there's oil starvation to the top of the engine, which could be for various reasons, including a blocked guaze in the pick-up pipe in the sump.
