We bought our daughter a car in may 2nd hand we hot a 3 month warranty we are now in the 4th month and the car has been bearly driven 2500 km added since it was bought and it wouldn't start so we got it towed to the local garage, the timing belt has slipped caused damage to the crank shaft and bent valves in the top of engine and there could be more, it was driving perfect the last day it was used, are we down €8000 or is there anything we can do
Hi Patricia,
I'm not entirely convinced that a slipping timing belt would be covered by most used car warranties, though that probably depends on what exactly caused it. You could go back to the dealer and state your case and see if they'll do anything for you, but I'd guess that most garages will point to the warranty period, which does not make mention of any mileage.
Nonetheless, I'd urge you to get in touch with the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CPCC) to discuss the situation as they'll have a good handle on what constitutes a breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2022 and whether they think you have a case to take.
Best of luck
