That is indeed excessive fuel consumption. Simple thing first: double check there are no fuel leaks when the car is running or static. After that, we'd be looking to make sure it was serviced recently. Pay particular attention to the air filter and spark plugs. If nothing improves, bring the car along to a good mechanic to see if they have any suggestions.
