Hi John,

That car's engine is known to 'wet' its spark plugs so that's one place to start inexpensively. The other known issues is the engine coolant temperature sensor and its wiring, which fails due to vibration and causes the issues you've described. 

Unfortunately, with a car of that age, there are many other things it could be, but hopefully that will give you a starting point in any case.
