Mercedes E 200 or E 220 d?

Mercedes E 200 or E 220 d?

Hi Shane, I'm looking at 2016 Merc E Class. Please let me know if you think the E200 1.9 Diesel (134 HP) is powerful enough Vs the E220 2.0 diesel (194 HP) The E200 are cheaper than E220 on Carzone. Thank you. Eugene

Our answer:

Hi Eugene,

We’re a bit confused by this one… if you’re talking about the current ‘W213’ E-Class, launched in 2016, then both the E 200 d and the E 220 d have the same 2.0-litre (it’s 1,950cc) four-cylinder turbodiesel. The E 200 d has 150hp and the E 220 d has 194hp. If the E 200 diesel you’re talking about is a very late ‘W212’ E-Class, then it does have 134hp – but from a detuned version of the age-old Mercedes 2.1-litre turbodiesel. And it should also be badged E 200 CDI, not E 200 d. Either way, the W213 generation is a vastly superior car to the W212, so the reason a 134hp diesel E-Class is a lot cheaper than a 194hp diesel E-Class is because the latter is a newer, better model. If you can find a W213 E 200 d with the 150hp engine, it should be fine to go for instead of the E 220 d, as long as you don’t ever use a lot of acceleration.
