Both will be much of a muchness in terms of economy and, assuming that it's the 1.5 petrol Almera and the 1.3 Mazda, then you should expect around 40mpg in daily driving. 

As for which is better, we prefer the 323 as it's a little more stylish and a lot more enjoyable to drive.
