Maybe import a commercial Defender?
I previously asked about privately buying a defender 90 in the uk and the importing costs regarding VRT and Nox tax. I got a comprehensive response. Thank you. I do have the option of importing the Defender as a commercial. How would the costs compare? Would I be liable for Nox Tax if classed as a commercial vehicle and would the VRT be solely based on 13.3% of the OMSP? (Defender 90 County, 2006, TD5, Diesel, Manual, 96000 miles) Thank you for your excellent responses.

Hi Darragh,
Yes, it would fall into the 13.3 per cent OMSP category, but you then run the risk of a fine of up to €4,000 if you’re not using it as a pure commercial vehicle. So you wouldn’t really be able to use it for any personal-driving duties.
