Hi Shane. Looking for some good spacious family car options in the used or nearly new range. We have two young kids and require excellent buggy and suitcase space. Skoda have replaced the 1.2 petrol Octavia. Are any of these worthwhile considering in 151 to 162 range? How does the performance compare to newer 1.0. Annual mileage about 17,000km. Monday to friday is very little only about 30km a day. Weekends we do a lot more but not every weekend so petrol is probably better option? We do like long trips once a month or so of 3 hours or so each way. Our budget for cost of change after trade in of auris 08 is about €15k-€19k. What cars would you recommend other than Octavia.
Hi Mark,
First off, the Octavia Combi is ideal if you’re looking for maximum space with minimum outlay — a genuinely excellent car. And yes, with your mileage and driving profile petrol is definitely best. The 1.2 TSI Octavia was a pretty good all-rounder, but just be certain which version you are buying as there was an 85hp model as well as the 105hp and the more powerful one is definitely the one to go for. Fuel consumption, in general, should hover at about the 6.5 litres per 100km mark. The new 1.0-litre has very similar performance, all-round, but is a little more refined and smooth. Other good options would be a Toyota Auris Sport Tourer, either the hybrid or the 1.2 turbo petrol, a Peugeot 308 SW with the 1.2 PureTech engine, or a SEAT Leon ST with the 1.2 TSI engine.
