OK, well the Sportage is out as that’s a five-seater only. You could go for the Kia Sorento, which is a seven-seater, but with a €25k budget, you won’t get the current generation model, which is a shame as the old one was a little clunky. That leaves it down to the Outlander and the Santa Fe, both of which have 2.2-litre diesel engines, so you’ll have to bust through your upper capacity limit for either. Both have their charms – the Mitsubishi is sturdy and relatively simple and pleasant to drive, but the Hyundai is the better car – nicer looking inside and out, comfier and damn near up to BMW standards. Go for the Santa Fe.
