If you want a good, reliable seven-seat SUV, then you need to consider the two big Koreans – Hyundai’s Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento. Both are excellent machines with proven technology, and there should be plenty of them on the used market. One thing, though; they’re almost exclusively diesel-powered, certainly in their later derivations. However, the petrol v diesel conundrum usually works like this: if you do more than 20,000km per annum and most of that is on the motorway, buy a diesel; if not, buy a petrol (or hybrid, or electric...). Also, on modern diesels, they have Diesel Particulate Filters and to avoid them getting clogged, you need to do long motorway runs every so often at decent speeds.
