My 23 year old son will be moving from California (USA) to Dublin in Aug. He will be starting Pulse College in Sept. We are desperate to find affordable room for him to rent, and now considering helping him to buy a small used car. From what qe have found, Dublin is extremly expensive so he will need a car to go school every day. Please let know what are the options. Thank you.
Hi Carla,
You've not mentioned your budget or where your son will be commuting from so our general advice would be to buy as modern a car as you can afford, for reliability and safety, but as small an engine size as possible to keep the insurance costs down. Don't buy a diesel, though, as the time stuck in traffic is likely to cause a clogged diesel particulate filter and other expensive maintenance issues.

Ask us anything motoring related and please provide as much information as possible so we can give you the most accurate advice.
