There’s actually nothing to be desperately avoided to be honest – even the French pairing of the Citroen C4 Picasso and Renault Scenic aren’t too shabby, especially if you’re buying post-2012, which your budget would allow. If it’s ultimate reliability you want, then go Japanese or Korean (Toyota Verso or Kia Carens), or if you fancy something with a dash of style, get the C4 Picasso or the Ford C-Max. Or you could go fully utilitarian and get the Citroen Berlingo.
