Looking at used BMW 520d.
Hi, I currently drive a 181 Ford Fiesta 1.1. This is on a pcp contract and the car goes back next January. We have twins who will be six in March. I’m looking to buy a BMW 520 Msport. I have a budget of around €15000. Possibly a 132 or 141 reg and more than likely I’ll buy an automatic. Should I buy one with the timing chain replaced or is there anything else I should look out for? Thanks for your help. Paul.

Hi Paul,
You should definitely look for one with the timing chain work carried out, as this can be an issue on this age of 520d, and also check for issues with the diesel particulate filter; this is not likely to be a problem, given most 520ds are used as long-distance motorway cars, but you need to be on your guard for it. Other than that, it’s a fine choice for a growing family and you should find plenty of decent used examples for your budget.
