Hi I am interested in buying a new car and I am looking at the Toyota Prius plus, I dont know how much of a saving ill do on the long run. The thing is I do around 32000 kms a year and per month I do around 2000kms on the motorway. I have 3 kids so the 7 seats will be great. Right now I own a 1.5 dci dacia duster. Looking to change next year. Can you help. Thanks
Hi Kevin,
It’s a little tricky this one as the Prius+ does not like long motorway journeys. The last time we tested one, it struggled to do much better than 30mpg on a long haul between Dublin and Waterford. With you racking up 2,000km a month on the motorway, that means it really might not be the best car for you. It might be worth having a look at the regular Prius hatchback though. It’s pretty spacious in the back, so you might be able to squeeze the three kids in (hint; Bubble Bum inflatable booster seats are a great way to maximise your kid-carrying space) and it will easily do 60mpg on long motorway runs. If you really need an MPV, though, you’d probably be better off with a diesel for the moment, given your driving parameters.
