Looking at a 2013 Grand Vitara 2.0d 4 wheel drive, is there anything I should look out for? NCT 2021, 103,000 KLM, priced at €8950. Thank you.
Hi Maurice,
Our info tells us it's a 1.9, but I assume we're talking about the same car. Things to watch out for:
- Heating/cooling fan not working (may need replacement)
- Creaks from suspension (anti-roll bar rubbers harden and should be replaced)
- Rattling front seat frames (cheap fix available)
- Poor running or starting may mean water in throttle body (not cheap to replace), or it could be a blocked diesel particulate filter of course
A major thing that comes with an expensive repair bill is a whining transmission in first or second gears, which requires a gearbox rebuild. Indeed, the gearbox is quite a weak point in general.
There's also a known issue with the camshaft spocket key that can fail and put the valve timing out.

Ask us anything motoring related and please provide as much information as possible so we can give you the most accurate advice.
