Looking at 2012 Corsa...

Buying my first car, looking at opel corsa 2012 1 litre, mileage is 86000km. Asking €4500. Is this price reasonable. What main questions should I ask before buying, what issues could a opel corsa that year have, is it a timing belt or chain on this car. NCT due feb 2020

Our answer:

Hi Caroline,

The valvegear timing on GM’s 1.0-litre petrol powerplant from 2012 is chain-driven. And that price seems pretty good, as we’ve seen a same-year 1.0-litre Corsa with 135,000km going for €5,000. Mechanically quite simple, that sort of Corsa D is an ideal starter car and the one you’re looking at sounds a good, relatively low-mileage example. The most common faults on these were failing suspension top mounts and seized rear brake discs due to a problematic handbrake linkage, but neither fault is that expensive to fix.
