Cars do not have an in-built expiry date. It can vary from vehicle to vehicle but, in principle, if you maintain a car properly then they can go on for millions of kilometres, not just hundreds of thousands of km. A Toyota Avensis would have a better chance than most of achieving such a thing, so as long as the car you are looking at has been well-maintained and has an extensive service/history file, you should be safe to buy it.
