Looking at newer versions of German cars such as Audi A4/5 and VW Golf and in particular the new TROC. The Troc has very poor quality materials on the dash with real hard plastics and even the newer Audis seem to be using more of these materails. So where does or can the so called premium quality be found in these cars. For example the differnce between a VW Golf GTD and an AUDI A3 S/Line 190 BPH.
Hi Jim,
Interior finishing is somewhat subjective, as what some people may like, others may not. It’s difficult to say precisely how the Audi would be different to a Golf GTD, given they’re both high-end premium products from the same manufacturing group, but in the Audi you’re supposed to be enjoying better infotainment set-ups, nicer dash-top finishing and Audi’s own designs of switchgear and graphics/fonts. All of these little things add up to make a car feel more special or not.
As regards the harder plastics in modern cars, there naturally have to be some harder-wearing materials lower down in the cabin – if you think about it, you might accidentally kick or scuff these panels with your shoes as you get in and out, so for the lower sides of the transmission tunnel, for instance, to be finished in soft-touch plastics is neither practical nor profitable for a car company.
