Hi Im looking at purchasing a new 181 car ,initially i wanted an suv ,test drove the Kia Sportage which i love ,also the Opel Grandland x which i didnt get overly excited about .However the opel insignia caught my eye in the showroom and now im torn between Kia Sportage and Opel Insignia ,any advice which would be better for fuel (both diesel models) ,comfort and speed .I like to drive a car with a bit of speed in it .Any advice would be most grateful .
Hi Danni,
Overall performance will not be all that much different between an Insignia, a Sportage and a Grandland X — they all weigh about the same, and use engines with very similar power outputs. The 2.0-litre Insignia will obviously be a bit more brisk than the basic 1.7 Sportage, but if you’re comparing like-with-like, then there won’t be a huge difference. That said, the Insignia, thanks in no small part to having superior aerodynamic performance, will probably prove a little more fuel efficient, especially on a long journey, and it is a comfortable car to drive, again especially on long journeys. Personally, we’d prefer it to either a Sportage or a Grandland X unless you’re really sold on the SUV body style. For the same price, more or less, you’re getting a car that’s (arguably) better looking, better to drive and has more cabin space.
