Just arrived in Ireland - how to buy a car?

Good day, I was wondering if you could help me. My husband and I have recently moved to Ireland and are in need of transport. We have both just started working as well. What would we need in order to apply for a vehicle? Thank you

Our answer:

Hi Chloe,

Well, it depends. Obviously, you’ll need to have the appropriate drivers’ licences, and it will depend on which country you have moved from as to whether you can transfer any existing licence into an Irish one. As far as buying a car is concerned, if you’re buying for cash, then you don’t need anything in particular other than proof of identity and address where you’re registering the car. If you’re taking out a loan or finance package, then you’ll need rather more including some evidence of credit history and possibly of employment, but your bank manager or financial advisor could help you out there.
