I think there must be something wrong with the figures you've supplied, as our data suggests that the Qashqai 1.3's tank only holds about 12 UK gallons. If that's correct, and the car does 457 miles on a full tank, the average economy is about 38mpg, which sounds about right for this engine to me, depending on how and where it is being driven of course.
