Is this new Renault price right?

Hi, I am looking to buy a new car from a Renault dealer. I researched the model on Renault.ie and the starting rrp is €30990. I understand that metallic paint is €500 extra which bumps the price up to €31490. The dealer is giving me €3500 trade in on my old car and looking for €28500 after some negotiations which brings the total cost to €32000, leaving a difference of €510. Is this normal and is this the "delivery and related charges"? My assumption was that a rrp on any product was that was what the retailer should be selling for. Can you clarify please ?

Our answer:

Hi Pat,

The RRP is just that - the recommended retail price, with the emphasis on 'recommended'. Dealers are entirely free to add or subtract from that according to their individual circumstances, and in fact importers and manufacturers are prohibited in the most part from setting specific prices, as it is thought that this discourages competition. Delivery and related charges usually runs to between €400 to €750 depending on the car so it's entirely likely that the €510 gap is indeed down to that.
