Is the petrol Touran ok?

Hi. We're looking at a VW Touran in petrol (we do low mileage) but it only comes with 1.0L 115hp engine. Are we foolish to consider such a small engine for a family car? Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks a mil. Paul

Our answer:

Hi Paul,

As it happens, I bought a new petrol Touran last year myself. It was powered by a 1.2-litre 110hp four-cylinder engine, which has been replaced by the 1.0-litre one. We are perfectly happy with it, regularly transporting a car-full of people. Obviously it's best-suited to low mileage, as a diesel is more economical on long runs. The diesel version will feel faster too, but the 1.0-litre engine is a good one that punches above its weight.

Try to get a test drive in one with that engine before you decide.
