Is the Mercedes Benz 250c coupe 2016 onwards more economical than the 220c version ?
Hi Mark,
No, the whole point of the C 220 d – which uses pretty much the same engine as the C 250 d, only in a lower state of tune – is to offer some of the performance of the C 250 d but with lower running costs and a cheaper asking price. So the 170hp C 220 d was said to do 67.3mpg with 109g/km of CO2, while the 204hp C 250d returned 64.2mpg and 112g/km; and that is enough of a difference to change the road tax fee for the C 220 d by €10 per annum in its favour. Bear in mind the C 250 d was dropped in the 2018 facelift of the C-Class family, with both the C 220 d and the 250’s C 300 d replacement now using the newer, 2.0-litre ‘OM654’ four-cylinder diesel engine. Power has gone up to 245hp on the C 300 d and it’s also up on the C 220 d, with 194hp available. The facelifted C 220 d is still better for quoted fuel and emissions than the C 300 d, though.
