Is the 2006 S-Class good?

Is a 2006 Mercedes Benz S class with 76000 miles a good buy,it has had 8 previous owners what to look out for. The owner of the car wants 6000 euro.

Our answer:

Hi Flor,

On the face of it, that’s a lot of car for the money, but it seems a trifle on the low side for a 2006 S-Class that has done such low mileage; most have done 200,000km-plus, as they were mainly used as executive transportation. Is the car you’re looking at an S 320 CDI, by any chance, rather than one of the petrols? The fact it has had eight owners is a slight concern, although if the service history is solid and the condition of it OK, then it should be fine – make sure you test drive it, though, and if you have any concerns about noises/clunks/warning lights, walk away. The thing about the S-Class is it depreciates incredibly, which is why it is such a tempting second-hand buy (as you’ve discovered), but it remains an enormously complex car with high running costs, so when things go wrong they will be very expensive to fix.
