Is the 10-year-old A-Class a good buy?

Is the a class merc 190 a good and reliable car I was thinking of getting one 10 years old

Our answer:

Hi John,

The second generation A-Class is a good buy from the point of view of space and practicality, but be very careful on the reliability front. Although the engine and gearbox should be pretty robust, the electrical system is prone to failures, both small and niggling and big and expensive. Make sure it has a full, preferably Mercedes main dealer, service history before you buy. Another shortcoming is very weak ventilation unless the (optional) air conditioning is fitted.
