Is my Skoda's belt ok?

Reference to question on Skoda Fabia Timimg Belt Change, Shane suggested 120,000 km regardless of time. Mine is 10 years old Fabia and done only 59,000 km. Does that mean time does not have any affect on timing belt durability ? Please clarify if ageing of belt has any role / risk and needs changing . Plus an additional question, pulleys etc along with water pump needs to be changed mandatorily ? Thanks.

Our answer:

Hi there,

The interval is the official one, but yes, we would always suggest that buyers take responsibility for having the belt checked by a good mechanic regularly. The water pump etc. is usually changed at the same time as the belt.
