ELEGANCE 1.9 TDI DSG 105HP . Skoda Octvia 2009. Is it possible to know whether it is a timing belt or a timing chain? And what would be the signs that it is due for replacement? and how much it will cost in Ireland?
Hi Kumar,
That engine uses a timing belt, which must be changed at least every 150,000km, regardless of time. There are not usually any outward signs that a timing belt is about to break, so you should stick to the schedule. If there are any unusual noises coming from the front of the engine that may be the timing belt tensioner, then it should be investigated earlier of course.
The price of the labour and parts will vary considerably depending on where you take the car to be worked on, but we can tell you that the work itself is around the two-hour mark.
