That's a difficult one for sure. Technically speaking it's not your fault, but the legality of it all might be tricky. Have you proof that you attempted to contact them about the issue before the warranty expired? That's probably the most important thing. If you do, and the issue that now needs repairs is definitely to do with the fault you reported, then you likely have a case. If so, tell them it's not acceptable and if they don't honour the warranty you'll have to seek legal advice - and then do so if needs be.

It's a shame you have to go to all this trouble really.
