Is diesel Passat ok for short distane?
Dear sir and madam I am going to buy a new Passat saloon , but I am a low mileage user (about 5000km every year). Just wondering in taday ‘s technology,for 1.5 L Diesel engines, do I have to drive a long journey everyday? Or I just treat it like petrol engine ,just drive 2 days a week,about 5000KM /year? Kind regards James

Hi James,
I'm afraid that even the latest diesels are not designed for such low-mileage use and you may have problems with the diesel particulate filter (and possibly other diesel-specific components) in the long run. A petrol or hybrid version of the Passat would suit your usage better in my opinion.
