Is diesel not suited to short journeys? E.g. three or four kilometres a few times a day?
Hi Andrew,
No, definitely not. Short journeys like that don't give a diesel engine time to warm up and reach peak efficiency, and also don't allow enough time to build up temperature in the exhaust for the particulate filter to clean itself out. You're not going to get the right fuel consumption out of it and you're going to run into maintenance trouble and expense with the particulate filter. Stick with a petrol - overall, it will work out much cheaper.
