Is a tow bar a good or bad sign?

Hi, is buying a 2010 Corolla 1.4 petrol saloon with 162100 kilometres from a car dealer for 6500 EUR a good price, my main concern is the tow bar, is it a good or a bad sign?

Our answer:

Hi Abed,

It’s neither, really. Obviously, someone who’s been towing overweight loads may well have put excess strain on things like the clutch, drive shafts, brakes, suspension etc, but it depends what they’ve been towing. Something light like a small boat or caravan shouldn’t be a problem; something heavy like farm or building equipment could be. See if you can find out, check the service history and check the car over carefully for any signs of excess wear (slipping clutch, grinding brakes, knocking suspension etc).
