It depends on which model it is, but I’m going to take a guess that it’s either an X1 or an X3. If it’s the X1, then to be honest, we’d just avoid it completely. While the new X1 is a really good car, the old model wasn't. If it’s the X3 then the outlook is much more rosy, as that’s a really good car — roomy, good to drive and quite handsome too. As for it being in and out of the garage, there are a couple of points to watch for. They do develop plenty of small, niggling electrical issues, so make sure that all of the buttons and switches are working properly, and the engine is prone to having turbo problems. The best thing to do is only buy one with a full and complete service history, and preferably buy from a BMW dealer, who will give you a two-year warranty on a used one.
