Is a 2004 BMW 330i a good idea?

Will it be a good idea to buy a 2004 330i sedán car? It has 109k with these much miles what should I expect to be fixing? I will buy it from a car dealer but want to know about it before I decide. Thanks

Our answer:

Hi Rosa,

That’s a late fourth-generation model, so mechanically the only thing to watch for is oil consumption on the 3.0-litre, straight-six engine. The ‘M54’ unit, as it was known, was capable of using a litre of oil for every 1,600km it covered, which is nothing out of the ordinary. With regards the rest of the car, E46s are now known to rust in the wheel arches so you need to watch for that, as it’ll need new wings if they’re bubbling. But the 330i is a lovely car and something of a modern classic, so it’ll make a sound purchase.
