There is no absolute maximum mileage for any car on sale, used or otherwise, and that goes for everything from city cars to the most expensive exotica. The only barrier to a car living a long and useful life is poor upkeep – missed services and cut-price repairs. Some cars do have terminal engine failures even with proper maintenance, but that’s usually down to a manufacturer fault that often should have been fixed by a model-wide recall earlier in the vehicle’s life. By the time a Polo gets to 156,000km, it has proven its reliability worth. All you have to do is keep looking after it and it should give many years of service yet.
