It’s not really a question of one being better than the other for Irish roads. These days, automatics are generally much of a muchness when it comes to fuel consumption and emissions when compared to manuals (indeed, in some cases the auto is actually the more frugal) so it really comes down to a decision of (a) cost – automatics are generally a bit more expensive, and (b) personal preference.
