I'm selling my car tomorrow!

I'm selling my car tomorrow!

I am privately sellng my car. Tomorrow I have a very positive viewing - can I ask the following: - What discs do I leave in the car/take when sold e.g. I believe I can transfer my insurance to my new car, so should I take my insurance disc? I also assume I leave the tax and NCT discs? - What documents do I need to give the buyer? just the ownership cert for the car? What, where, when and how do I or the buyer register transfer of ownership? Thank you so much, Aoife

Our answer:

Hi Aoife,

First of all, it's worth taking a look at our How to Sell a Used Car Safely feature. Then, read our What to Do When Selling Your Car Privately feature.

In terms of discs, you're right: take your insurance disc out, but leave tax and NCT discs in the car.

You and the buyer must fill in the change of ownership section on the back of the Vehicle Registration Certificate and then you must send it to the Department of Transport for updating.

Best of luck
