I'm interesting in importing a Honda e...

Hi … according to the Vrt calculator if i import a Honda e from the uk the vrt is zero? Is there customs duty and vat to pay ? If so how is it calculated? Thks Harry

Our answer:

Hi Hugh,

That's right, for now; there's a VRT rebate of up to €5,000 on cars with an Open Market Selling Price of up to €40,000 that would likely apply to an imported Honda e.

You will be liable for customs/import duty and VAT, however. The former is 10 per cent of the price you actually paid for the car plus the costs of shipping it to Ireland. VAT is then charged at 23 per cent.
