I'd like to use a pick-up for private use.
Hi, I would like to buy a double cab Toyota Hilux for work and private use (family transport). I understand that the road tax will be higher than if it was for a commerical, However, if I buy from a dealer are there there any other tax implications? I heard there might be VAT payable?

If you’re buying as a business buyer, then you can most likely claim back the VAT, but if it’s a private purchase then the VAT will simply be part of the price. As for motor tax, yes you’ll have to tax it as a passenger car if you’re using it for any personal needs, even just brief school runs. Pricier, but a lot cheaper than the €4,000 fine if you get caught.
