I'd like a nippy hatch for €4,000.
Hi, I am about to buy a car for €4000 max. i am replacing a very nippy supercharged mini cooper s which i am very sad to see go. what can you recommend that has cheap tax that would be nippy (so that i dont have to sob every time i try to overtake!). preferably a hatchback with 5 doors. cheers, yvonne

Would you consider a BMW 1 Series? Decent performance, great handling and plenty of 2007 models around in your price range. We also found some Alfa 147s — a great car, and not half as unreliable as you’d think (as long as you look after it) with cracking performance from a 1.6 Twin Spark petrol engine. Or, slightly more sensibly, there are some nice Volkswagen Golfs, also 2007 vintage, around with the 1.4 TSI turbo engine, which are pretty lively.
