Your annual mileage dictates you are the kind of buyer who needs a diesel, not a petrol (as you’re proposing around 30,000km per annum), and most of these models will have automatic diesel second-hand examples available for less than €20,000. The Kodiaq is marvellous but it’s a bigger vehicle than all the others here and we have to question the merit of you needing a seven-seat SUV when you’ve only got a family of four. We’d either say look at a Karoq instead, or one of the others listed. The Ateca and the 3008 are, for our money, the two machines vying for top honours in their class. The SEAT is a bit more conventional to look at, both outside and most certainly within as well, but some find the ergonomics of the Peugeot’s mainly-touchscreen interior and its small steering wheel a bit of a challenge. Either of them would make fine family wheels, though, so the choice really comes down to your personal preference.
