Both are excellent choices, and I’m actually a big fan of the DS3. The only thing is that it’s not as good in diesel form as it is in 1.6 petrol turbo form, which spoils the plot slightly. The Audi is far better as a diesel, but it’s hugely colour and spec sensitive so you need to find one with a good, bold colour and nice wheels if it’s not too look a bit dull. Don’t forget the Mini – not the most practical thing around, but huge fun to drive and the 1.6 Cooper D is amazingly economical – 60mpg in daily driving. Also worth considering an Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Alfa’s poor residuals mean it’s a bigger, more luxurious car for the same money, and is decent to drive and utterly gorgeous.
