I think your best bet would be to look for a good late-model Honda CR-V. They’re absolutely cavernous inside and should be able to accommodate the family with ease, plus the previous generation model came with four-wheel drive as standard. The 2.2-litre diesel engine is decently economical but you might be surprised by the economy of the 2.0-litre VTEC petrol too – well worth a look.
