Hi, at the end of the summer I am hoping to buy a new (used) car. I am thinking maybe Toyota Land Cruiser. Is there any such thing as a 4x4 that will comfortably tow two horses, that is not in the very top tax bracket and that I could get with a budget of approx 10k? (I was looking at the mazda cx5, but I think it's too small??) Thanks a mil, Beth
Hi Beth,
The difficulty is that mention of not being in the top tax bracket – realistically, you need a proper 4x4 that’ll tow at least 3,000kg of braked trailer if you’re going to lug two horses around in a horsebox, and that typically means an older diesel engine that emits more. A Land Cruiser is as good a bet as any, as it’s tough as old boots and capable of hauling plenty, but you might also consider the SsangYong Rexton – it’s good for towing and reasonably cheap.
