Lots of choice in that sort of range but if you need something for buggies, can I suggest an estate of some kind? As a parent myself, there’s nothing quite so nice as knowing that you actually can fit everything in without resorting to rusty Tetris skills. The Skoda Octavia Combi is a good bet and there are plenty around, with 1.4, 1.6 and 1.9 engines – petrol or diesel. If you’re willing to stretch up a size, you should be able to track down a last-generation Ford Mondeo Estate too, which is not only a cracking car to drive, it’s also staggeringly roomy.
