For surfboards, you really need to be looking at an estate, so start shopping around for a Kia cee’d Sportwagon, Hyundai i30 CrossWagon, Ford Focus Estate or Skoda Octavia Combi. Lots around for small money, they’re all decently reliable and all have big boots and usually come with roof rails that make fitting a rack for boards that much easier.
