I need a bigger car!

Hi, we currently have a 2008 Ford Mondeo: big car, great boot space, but no way will we fit another car seat in the back (baby number three on way, young family so need space for three car seats). I really don't want to buy a seven-seater unless I have to. Can you recommend any car that has three full seats in the back?

Hi Eyvonne,

It’s getting really, really tricky to find any conventional car with three full seats across the back. I know you hate the idea of an MPV but would you consider a Ford S-Max? It’s all Mondeo bits underneath so it’s very like the Mondeo to drive and they’re a really great family car. Other options would be a Skoda Yeti, which has the three seats, though the boot would be a good bit smaller than you’re used to. Or maybe try a 2007-onwards Honda CR-V. Lots of space and just enough for three child seats across the back.

Or, you could invest in a rear seat converter package which turns a conventional 2+1 rear seat into a slot-in system that carries up to four child safety seats. They cost in and around €1,500 to buy and fit, and you can get them here: http://www.epmooney.ie/web/MultiMac-6-Seat-Conversion-Kit/ - note that we've not actually tried these out for ourselves as yet.
