I have a troublesome Volvo...

I have a Volvo XC60 D3, bought new in 2016. Warning lights come on every few weeks, generally emissions but lately failure of airbag, Volvo dealer always fixes (for a while)but I am getting tired of this. constant. Should I push for replacement car.

Our answer:

Hi Jacqueline,

Not the first time we’ve heard of this from late Mk1 XC60s, but it might be tricky to get a replacement car from Volvo, now that your vehicle is two years old. It is still in warranty, so take it back to the dealership and ask to speak to the service/maintenance manager. Explain your case and say that you do not expect to keep bringing an expensive, premium car back to the garage. If they fail to deal with it adequately, cite the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 and say you will take matters further if they don’t resolve it. Our only final piece of advice is that the engine and airbag warning lights coming on might be indicative of electrical/wiring faults, rather than any serious problem with either component of the car – so ask them to investigate that. Good luck!
