Right, your Focus is worth about €5,000 on the open market, so reckon on something like €3,750 for a trade-in price. That gives you a budget of about €18,500-€18,750. You want diesel if you’re doing 60,000km a year and probably an automatic gearbox, too, so you can look at the executives – a good Audi A4, BMW 3 Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class would all be in your price bracket – but we’d recommend a used example of the Mk5 Ford Mondeo (2014-on), a Mk1 Opel/Vauxhall Insignia (2008-2017), a Mk3 Mazda6 (2012-on) or, our preferred choice, the Mk3 Skoda Superb (2015-on).
