I have €10,000 to spend. Can you help?

Hi there,

I have about €10,000 to spend, hoping to find something efficient and reliable. Thining 1.4/1.6 engine, not sure whether to look for diesel or petrol? Would have to be hatchback or estate, what would you recommend?

Hi Yvonne,

OK, that’s a pretty massive question, but with that kind of budget I’d say your best bet is the safest bet of all – a Golf. €10k gets you a hugely wide choice of cars, and you might even be able to track down one of the rare Golf Estates if boot space is a priority. Get the 1.6 diesel if you’re going to be doing lots of long mileage journeys, or the 1.4 TSI petrol if you’re going to be mostly doing short hops.
